Friday, March 11

Depart William & Mary at 2pm, arrive at Dulles for BA Flight 292, Departing 10:05pm


Day 2

Saturday, March 12

Arrive at London - Heathrow at 10:10am local time.

Visit Windsor Castle to consider the complex relationship between Church and State in England.

Following lunch at Windsor, depart for Salisbury, unpack and check in at Sarum College before dinner.


Day 3

Sunday, March 13

Attend Mattins at 9:15am, then Holy Eucharist at 10:30am at Salisbury Cathedral, followed by lunch at Sarum College.

Travel just up the road to St. Andrew’s, Bemerton, where George Herbert was once rector, and we’ll hear a talk about Herbert from a parishioner and local guide. Evening Prayer said together at St. Andrew’s.


Monday, March 14

First thing in the morning, visit Stonehenge, then on to Old Sarum, the ruins of the original cathedral and walled city of Salisbury.

In the afternoon, a full guided tour of Salisbury Cathedral, including a tour up the spire, the tallest in England, and the best preserved copy of Magna Carta, followed by a talk by the Principal of Sarum College and optional Evensong at Salisbury Cathedral.

Day 4


Tuesday, March 15

Drive to St Albans Cathedral, named for Britain’s first saint and martyr, and the oldest continuous place of Christian worship in the country. After Eucharist, a guided tour, and lunch, travel to London, and check in to St. Katharine’s Retreat Center.

Day 5


Wednesday, March 16

Visit the Faith Center at the London School of Economics and talk with the founding Director for a modern look at ministry in the Church of England and ministry and faith in a diverse, secular setting. Optional Eucharist at St. Paul’s Cathedral at noon, followed by a conversation with St. Paul’s Dean, and a full tour with optional time to climb to the top of the dome.

Free time in London follows.

Day 6


Thursday, March 17

Take the Tube to Leytonstone in East London, the birthplace of Alfred Hitchcock, then walk to St. Andrew’s, the local parish church. Talk with the Very Rev. Paul Kennington about ministry in an average Church of England parish, followed by Eucharist and lunch.

Free afternoon in London.

Day 7


Friday, March 18

Check out of St. Katharine’s after breakfast.

Drive to Rochester Cathedral and meet with the Dean, followed by a full tour. Free time and lunch in Rochester, then to All Saint’s, Tudeley, a medieval church with a complete set of stained glass windows by Marc Chagall.

In the afternoon, arrive in Canterbury. Check in to Cathedral Lodge, then dinner.

Day 8


Saturday, March 19

Meet at Canterbury Cathedral for a Eucharist in one of the cathedral chapels, then a full tour the Cathedral in the morning. In the afternoon, a tour of nearby St. Augustine’s Abbey and the city of Canterbury.

Day 9


Sunday, March 20

Check out of Cathedral Lodge. Attend Mattins, then travel on to Heathrow, arriving by 2pm.

Depart from London Heathrow on BA 293 at 4:30pm local time, arriving at Dulles at 10:55pm Eastern time.
