Music at Canterbury!
O come, let us sing unto the Lord;
Let us heartily rejoice in the strength of our salvation.
Psalm 95:1
Music is an integral part of Canterbury’s worship life. When we worship in-person, our Sunday and Tuesday services both include music drawn from the riches of our Anglican tradition, accompanied by the historic Wren Chapel Organ or the newly-installed, III/45 Dobson Organ (Op. 96, 2019) at Bruton Parish Church. While much of our hymnody comes from The Hymnal 1982, we also enthusiastically incorporate music from additional resources, especially Lift Every Voice and Sing II.
Once university and diocesan pandemic restrictions are lifted, we are hoping to revive the in-person Canterbury Choir, which would rehearse on Sunday afternoons from 4-5, and sing for the 5:30 p.m. Holy Communion service at Bruton. Currently, a small group has faithfully recorded hymns and service music for our online Sunday services since September 2020. This included a predominantly-virtual Easter Vigil service, which you can view here.

Canterburians are also invited to be involved with the thriving music ministry at Bruton Parish, by singing in one of the choirs, ringing in the bell choir, or serving as ushers for Bruton’s signature Candlelight Concerts. For more information on becoming a part of the Bruton choirs, please contact Beckie Davy, Director of Music at bdavy@brutonparish.org.
